The creative mind rarely ever stops. I should know. It’s caused me a lot of sleepless nights when I cannot get my mind to shut off. It has filled notebooks. Created incomprehensible notes on any device closest to me at any given moment. Doodled. Painted. Embroidered. Dreamed. Failed. Over and over again. When I started this business 7 years ago it looked very, very different from what it is today. And I’m sure in another 7 years I will be able to say the same thing all over again. It has evolved. Stumbled. Grown. The dreams I had for what could be back in 2015 are very different from the dreams I have now.

At the heart of stationery is connection. I always loved that our customers were using our products to send joy to their friends and family. And that idea of joy welled up and spilled over into pretty much everything we have made since our first days. I adopted the phrase “frontcountry products for outdoor people” years ago for Compass. And as we grew, we added more products to our line than just our popular greeting cards. And it wasn’t just frontcountry products anymore. It included products you could take in the backcountry or use on day trips. The brand evolved into not just a paper company…we’ve taken on a role as a true lifestyle brand. We have gotten to see our products on mountain summits, on canoe trips, on trails. Traveling abroad, going with you on every adventure. And that has brought me a lot of joy.
We are adopting a new name and a new muse – Lettie. She is wild and she brings joy everywhere she goes. From showing up at the local brewery to hang with a bunch of her friends, to spending weeks in the backcountry sending it. Always colorful. Always spontaneous. Always ready and prepared – not just with gear but with a hug for a friend, a goofy joke to lift spirits on bad weather days, or always saying “yes” to any adventure that comes her way. She is me on my best days. And she is the combination of every customer I’ve met over the past 7 years. I’ve always said I am this brand’s ideal customer because I make things I love to use. But now, it is Lettie. And knowing her, it’s going to be a colorful ride moving forward.
